The Cougars earned their fourth bowl victory in their last five appearance with
a 33-27 win over the Purdue Boilermakers. Free safety Lamont
Thompson, who had two interceptions, five deflections, and 10
tackles, was named MVP of the game. Quarterback Jason Gesser
led WSU with 281 passing yards, 137 in the third quarter when
the Cougars rebounded from a 20-17 halftime deficit to run off
16 straight points.
