The last play of the second quarter provided Washington State
all the points the Cougars needed to record a 10-3 win over
Baylor at the second annual Builders Square Alamo Bowl. The
Cougars did something
against Baylor they had not done all season, take the opening
kickoff and driving 91 yards for a touchdown. The game’s
most valuable defensive player, Ron Childs, had 10 tackles
including eight solo, of which two were for negative yardage.
Only on its last possession did Baylor come close to the WSU
endzone, but Todd Jensen picked off a Jeff Watson pass to
halt any Baylor hope of scoring. The bowl victory was WSU’s
second in the last three years and third in seven years.
